UTFEEP

Database for the University of Tokyo Forests Experimental and Ecological forest plot

東京大学演習林 森林試験地データベース

About UTFEEP:

UTFEEP is an abbreviation for “Database for the University of Tokyo Forests Experimental and Ecological forest Plots”. The database includes metadata and measurement data of experimental and ecological forest plots (or long-term research plots) located in The University of Tokyo Forests (UTF).

UTF consists of seven branch forests, in which baseline data has continuously been collected for research and education. At UTF, the Forest Growth Survey Division, the Committee on Fundamental Data organizes online publication of metadata (each plot and measurement), measurement data and related materials such as survey notes and maps.

Here, forest experimental and ecological plots refer to those plots having tree census data such as DBH (diameter at breast height) and tree height, which have been repeatedly measured on a regular basis.

Currently, information of a total of ca. 430 plots is posted. Most of the plots were installed after 1970, while the oldest one was installed in 1893. Plots are normally measured every 5 or 10 years. Measurement data has been registered for some plots. For the plots which data is still under preparation, the data will be added once it is ready. (1st March 2020)

About how to use data:

  • Commercial use is prohibited.
  • ・This database contains data that has already been opened as research papers and/or data papers The published data may have been modified and updated from the initial version through screening processes. When you use any data in this database, please cite the appropriate papers in the acknowledgements. Bibliographic information of original papers is shown in the “publication” column in the censusdata table. For detailed information about measurements, please read the original papers. Without them, please specify that the data is obtained from UTFEEP (Database for the University of Tokyo Forests Experimental and Ecological forest Plots). Also, when your production using this database is published, please let us know whenever possible.
  • ・We keep the right to modify and update the data in this database when necessary in future. Date of update will be recorded in the database (please see “Data explanation”). Major modification will be announced in this website.
  • ・This database also contains scanned data of field data sheets of each census. To check detailed or uninput information, please see “PDF of field data sheets” in the “Plot metadata” page. Other scanned data such as maps and figures can also be included.
  • ・When metadata is only posted here, measurement data should be stocked in branch forest office. If you wish to obtain such data, please consult to each branch forest office. Please note that measurement data is often available only in hand-writing form.

How to download data:

  • ・Fill in the search box in “Search plots” page, and click “search”
  • ・By clicking the plot name of shown list, you can see its detail.
  • ・By clicking download button, you can obtain the shown list.
  • ・By clicking button after checking plots in the checkboxes on the left, you can see the metadata of measurements at chosen plots.
  • ・In the measurement metadata list, if any measurement data is registered, “records” indicates more than one. Then, by clicking download button, you can obtain measurement data you want.
  • ・Please read “Data explanation” page for more detailed information about each data.
